Back in the kitchen, Idris checked his phone again. Drake had been blowing it up for the last few hours. Leaving voicemails, each more aggressive and threatening than the last.

Idris sighed and hit call.

Drake picked up on the first ring. “Where is she?” His voice was tight and whiny. He got like that when he couldn’t have what he wanted.

“At work, I guess,” Idris said evenly.

Drake snarled. “Don’t you think I looked there already, dumbass?”

“Sorry, Alpha.”

“Been looking for her all over town. I’m starting to think you’ve got her.”

Ice shot down Idris’s spine. Drake wasn’t as dumb as he looked. “Nope,” he said carelessly. “But there have been some new developments.”

“What developments?”

“I need to tell you in person. They might be listening.”

“Who?” Drake’s voice turned cunning.

Christ. Idris rolled his eyes. “I can’t say. Come meet me at the territory.”

“You better not be bullshitting me, Omega.”

“I wouldn’t.” Idris ended the call.

Now what? He asked himself, but before he could finish the thought, his wolf growled, kill him! Protect your mate.

The blood pounded in his veins. Killing Drake was something he’d turned over many times over the years. But that would be huge. Unprecedented. Hopefully, he’d be able to convince Drake that he was mistaken, instead.

He gathered up his motorcycle keys and his jacket, and he cast a final glance up the stairs toward the locked bedroom door. The key was still turned in the lock and there was no gap between the door and the floor—no way for Delaney to figure out a way of getting hold of it. He’d already discovered that underestimating her was dangerous, but he was satisfied she was securely locked in.

A smile pulled at his lips. Wrong though it was, his wolf liked having a prisoner. Knowing that she was up there, naked, at his mercy. The thought was too delicious for words. He tuned in his ears and listened. There was a scrape of ceramic on wood. It sounded like the bowl was being picked up. He wondered how she’d deal with eating without silverware. He wasn’t above turning one of his playthings into a pet. But that was a step too far for Delaney, he decided.

He was hoping it would make her a little feisty, so when he returned, she’d be more keyed up than ever—and disciplining her would be even more of a pleasure. But, later.

He locked his front door behind him, then strode out to his Harley and climbed astride it.
